Uptown Funk You Up!!!

Birth-Camp-Iversary Aftermath…

Ain’t no party like a Bootcamp party, cuz them Bootcamp people get down!

[BTW:  If you have more pics from this event, shoot them my way!  🙂 ]

What a night at Joey B’s last week!

What an amazing turnout for my Birth-Camp-iversary!

And what an absolute butt load of shots!

shots, shots, shot shots, shots, shots, everybody ...

Seriously… I haven’t done that many shots since my 21st birthday back when I was a frat boy at Mizzou and had 99 problems but a drinking tolerance wasn’t one.

That night ended similarly to Friday night however, with me having to be taken care of by close friends.  Lol.

My apologies to any of the staff at Joey B’s if you were the one(s) who had to spray down my mess in the parking lot.  My bad!…

Jim Carrey gag puke vomit | Funny memes and images ...

Not my proudest moment to be sure… but I have to say, that I did have an amazing time.

And it’s because I got to spend some quality time with my amazing people.

It’s funny… I truly relish my role as head trainer.  But so often it feels like I’m the one being trained.

I may be the one correcting form at class.  But you’re the ones correcting my course on this journey.

I may be the one who keeps track of time.  But you’re the ones who keep me smiling during that time.

I scoff when you tell me pizza has all of your food groups.  You scoff when I tell you burpees are fun.

I try to keep you accountable on your health goals.  You try to keep me accountable on this mythical podcast idea I keep hinting at.

I tell you what to eat on Wednesdays.  You tell me where to shove that advice.  JK!  😉

I turn on the fan at class (sometimes)… And you turn on my passion to continue down this path, to help more people, and discover how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I may challenge you to do one more rep when you don’t think you can… But you’re the ones who challenge me to not get lost in my professional pursuits… to take a vacation… to have a personal life… to take care of me.

I make you do squats in synch to “Bring Sally Up”.  You make me want to be a better version of myself.

I know that sounds sappy, but it’s the truth.

I’m absolutely grateful for each and every one of you.

And I was absolutely humbled by the turnout on Friday night.  Humbled by the amount of love I received.  Humbled by the amount of people that wanted to contribute to my inebriation.  Humbled by what Joey B’s classifies as a “shot”.  (I mean, seriously, they were like triple the size of a regular shot!  Just sayin!)

But it was all good… because it was all about connection.

Every good relationship needs that connection… that back and forth… that give and take… that symbiosis… that mutual love and respect…  that je ne sais quoi.

And it’s these connections that I value the most and what I think makes Bootcamp so special.

People have made a point of thanking me over the last couple of weeks for making Bootcamp what it is.

And while I can’t take credit for starting this venture (hat’s off to the biological father, Johnny King)… nor for getting the majority of you in the door (hat’s off to Groupon and my Bootcampers for spreading the good word)… it has certainly become my adopted child in every other way.

I’m honored and proud to help facilitate new relationships both between you and me… and between you with each other.

It’s so awesome to come across pictures on Facebook of people who first met at Bootcamp catching a Cards game together, conquering an Escape Room together, enjoying brunch together… or slopping around in the mud together.  (Get in on the Battlegrounds!!… May 19th… details towards the bottom of this email!)

It warms my spirit and nourishes my soul to see all this develop.  And it prompts me to reflect upon my own development as all this has unfolded.

A few years ago, I probably would have tried to hide my overly-inebriated state from Friday night.

After all, what 35-year-old-grown-@ss-man wants to be shuttled to his mom’s front porch at midnight when he can barely string together coherent sentences, let alone walk a straight line?  #embarrassing

What trainer wants to be seen indulging in bunt cake and booze?

What kind of example does that present?

I suppose it just exemplifies what I assume you already know about me:

That I’m far from perfect.  And perfectly ok with that.

Today I don’t take myself quite so seriously.

You’ve allowed me to remove my mask.  The mask that I had to wear in my early days to protect my identity as the insecure, under-qualified, not-good-enough trainer.

And it was exhausting!

At 35, I’m blessed enough to have found the courage to put it all out there.  In fact, maybe you wish I’d be more private at times.  Lol.

But I gotta be me.

It’s a heck of a lot easier that trying to wear that mask… and I’ve found… a lot more rewarding as well.  🙂

Thanks to Lisa Brennan for helping us to set up this event at Joey B’s.

Thanks to Liz Belcastro for helping to drive my butt home at the end of the night.

Thanks to everybody for showing up to have some fun and celebrate with me.

Thanks for all the amazingly thoughtful gifts, hugs, and libations.

Thanks as always for your love, support, friendship, stories, and patronage.

Thanks for letting me be me!  😉

Much love!
