Are we doing “Adopt-A-Family” this year…?

We’ll be breaking from tradition a bit this year as Salvation Army successfully had all of their families adopted in advance.

So we’ll be playing the roll of Santa Clause for a different organization this year.

St. Louis Fitness Bootcamp is proud to be teaming up with St. Louis Children’s Hospital this year to make the holidays brighter for some kiddos that could use a little additional brightness and holiday cheer.

Below you can find a list of the types of items they’re looking for. If you’d prefer to make a cash donation, you provide that to me in person at Bootcamp (or I’ll have a link and a page setup for online donations by next week). Here’s the wish list:

Toys, teen gifts, art supplies, video games, stuffed animals, and crib mobiles are just a selection of items that we are in need of. Please note:

  • All items must be new with tags or in original packaging.
  • New or gently used books are accepted.
  • Handmade blankets must be laundered prior to donating.
  • Gifts should be un-wrapped.

Wish List Top 10:

  1. Infant/toddler toys (i.e. music/light-up toys, teethers, rattles, crib mobiles)
  2. Arts and craft supplies (i.e. Play-Doh, markers, crayons, etc.)
  3. Uno & other card games
  4. Gifts for teens (refer to Lovelight list)
  5. Lego Sets
  6. Small playsets (Little People, small figurines, plastic foods, etc.)
  7. Action Figures
  8. Barbie dolls
  9. Small bottles of acrylic paint
  10. Ear buds/Headphones

If you need more ideas, here’s the donation page on their website:

https://www.stlouischildrens.org/giving/give/donate-items-from-our-wish-list

Please bring any and all gifts to Bootcamp, and I’ll collect and make the drop off on your behalf.

Thank you so much in advance for your kindness and generosity. This has been such a successful collection in years past due to the big hearts of our Bootcamp family. Much love! 😉

“Think-itation..”

You’re probably going to be hearing about it more and more:

The importance of mindfulness practices and meditation.

No longer a practice reserved for those Buddhist monks or the hemp-encrusted hippies that frequent your local farmer’s market.

Increasing amounts of research is coming out on the massive benefits of meditation.

It’s becoming common practice amongst top CEO’s and the Silicon Valley types.

It’s even predicted that in the coming years, all the Fortune 500 companies will be building in mindfulness time for their employees. (What might seem like wasted productivity time on the surface, actually proves to be a productivity super-charger that helps workers to stay sharp and refreshed.)

I get it… meditation is good for me…

Increasing amounts of research is coming out on the massive benefits of meditation.

It’s becoming common practice amongst top CEO’s and the Silicon Valley types.

It’s even predicted that in the coming years, all the Fortune 500 companies will be building in mindfulness time for their employees. (What might seem like wasted productivity time on the surface, actually proves to be a productivity super-charger that helps workers to stay sharp and refreshed.)

And though I’ve tried a number of times, it’s never been a habit that stuck.

But sometimes you have to get hit with an idea multiple times from multiple angles before it truly begins to hit home for you in a real way.

Meditation re-piqued my interest this week while listening to a podcast on the topic.

Actually, not meditation, per say… But this new slant on meditation called “Think-itation”.

My typical issue with meditation, is the same frustration Tom Bilyeu expresses:

You’re asked to not focus on any thought that comes to your mind.

But… per interviewee, Vishen Lakhiani, “That’s absolute rubbish!”

In other words, if you’re “thinkitating” and a brilliant thought comes to you, don’t dismiss it, fool!

Have your laptop or pad of paper handy and capture that brilliance before it escapes you.

Thomas Edison did this on the regular to solve problems and come up with new ideas and essentially get un-stumped.

He’d sit back in his chair while holding a metal ball with a metal tray beneath it. As he began to doze off (transitioning into dreamland), he’d release the ball, which would clang the tray and wake Edison from his altered state. It’s said he captured many of his game changing ideas through this process.

Kind of like catching butterflies in a net… it’s not that hard to catch them, when you know where to look.

Tom, himself, claims to get 80% of his best ideas through this Thinkitation practice. 80%!!!

Crazy, right?

Vishen proceeds to break down our different brain waves:

Beta brain waves = normal conciousness

Alpha & Theta brain waves = altered levels of conciousness

Sometimes we reach these altered states when we’re dreaming… but often we don’t go there in a waking state without accessing some form of meditation, mindfulness, or “thinkitation” practice.

These altered states allow us to tap into our creative side and even discover solutions to problems that have been plaguing us for quite some time.

Some will argue this is tapping into the “Universal Conciousness” or God or some other mystical force.

But, these explanations aside, there’s no denying its efficacy based on the research.

Stealing an exchange from Season 3 of Daredevil,

A young Matt Murdoch confides angrily to his priest: “I’ve been praying for years, but God never talks back.”

The priest retorts: “Even in the Bible, the “Burning Bush thing” is pretty rare, Matthew. If you’re not hearing God, it’s probably because you’re not really listening… After all, He speaks in whispers.”

But how can we ever hear those whispers (from God, from the Universe, or just from your inner intelligence/intuition) if we never make the time to actively listen?

Active listening… “thinkitation”… For whatever reason this resonates with me more than traditional “meditation” where you try to let go of all thought… often more frustrating that enlightening in my experience.

Maybe you’ve had the answers you’ve been seeking all along. But perhaps you’ve just been looking in all the wrong places.

If you’ve ever worn a pair of sunglasses and thought they were lost after checking “everywhere”… you feel pretty stupid when somebody points them out sitting on top of your head.

In a parallel train of thought… We’re always looking for answers to problems in our conscious, waking, beta state.

But maybe the answers we seek are sometimes hiding in those “altered states”… the alpha and theta states… much closer than we ever realized.

Maybe it’s worth it to check those other spaces.

It worked wonders for Edison. And it’s working like gangbusters for Tom Bilyeu.

Change your frequency… tune in to a different wavelength… actively listen for those whispers…

And maybe… just maybe… it’ll work for you too.

Blessings & much love!

CJ
