Skedge 4/23/18 (With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility…)

By CEEJ | In St. Louis Fitness Bootcamp | on April 22, 2018

Leavin’ on a jet plane!!!

With great power comes great responsibility…

The time has come!

It’s time for this little CeejEO to spread his wings and exit the Midwest for the first time in 7 years.

What does this mean for you?

No!… It doesn’t mean you get the week off of Bootcamp!

Get your butt to class and don’t make me regret absconding from the country for a week.

What it does mean is… Derek’s in charge!

For those who don’t know Derek… he’s my younger brother, my live-in roommate, St. Louis’s best wedding photographer, an accomplished Uber driver, the Ernie to my Bert, the Robin to my Batman, the Raphael to my Leonardo, the former head trainer of our St. Peters chapter of St. Louis Fitness Bootcamp, and for all intents and purposes, my best friend.

He’s also crazy.

But let’s not worry about that now.  😉

Derek knows fitness.  And he knows how to put on a great, entertaining class.

He’s also in charge of creating the Tabatas for this week, so I’ll be very interested to hear your feedback on whether he’s bested the master (me) in terms of creativity.

As I mentioned, it’s very important to me that this week of Bootcamp goes well.

First and foremost, you, my Bootcamp family, deserves the best exercise experience in the world 365 days per year.  (I mean you’re on your own for Sundays and major holidays, but aside from that, I got your back.)

Second, I think everybody can benefit from some relaxation time.  (As in, time when they’re not waking up at 3am to put on the world’s best workout experience.  😉 )

For the last five years, I had convinced myself that I was the exception to that rule…  That I don’t need breaks…  That I am UNSTOPPABLE!!

And while all of that may be true… after some introspective thought (and plenty of prodding from my loving members) it occurs to me that some intermittent time to disconnect may proove beneficial for all parties concerned.

But if Bootcamp goes to hell in a handbasket during my absence, I may never leave again.  (Kidding… kind of…)

Part of this is on Derek.  (I’ll be reminding him that:  With great power comes great responsibility.)

remember, with great power comes great responsibility ...

Part of this is on YOU.  (Same rule applies.)

It’s a lot to ask of any person to come into a group of people they don’t know and connect with them in an energetic, entertaining, and enjoyable way.

While I’m more than confident that Derek is up to the task, I thought it might be helpful if you knew a little more about him to help break the ice and start forming that connection.

I’ve included a few of Derek’s ‘LIKES‘ below to help you strike up a rapport:

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Comedy/Comedians
  • Movies
  • Awkwardly long hugs
  • TV Shows:  Supernatural, How I Met Your Mother, The Walking Dead, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
  • Pokemon
  • Dragonball Z
  • Pretty much anything with Japanese animation
  • Spending hours on YouTube
  • Chickens (especially “Duck”)
  • Feats of strength
  • Doing Handstands while people watch
  • Image may contain: 1 person
  • Wearing baseball hats
  • Knowing the names of obscure actors who only seem to appear in commercials and bit parts
  • Critiquing TV commercials
  • Picking fights with trolls on Instagram
  • Suiting Up
  • Image may contain: 1 person
  • Frank Sinatra
  • French Pressed Coffee
  • American Ninja Warrior

I thought it might also be helpful to include some of Derek’s ‘DISLIKES‘ in the event that the power goes to his head and he needs to be reined in a bit.  Broach these topics at your own risk:

  • The Calorie Myth (the belief that all calories are created equal, and the belief that counting calories-in and calories-out is the ONLY thing that matters towards weight loss.  Both are fallacies, BTW…)
  • Crossfit Pullups (“THEY’RE NOT REAL PULLUPS!” –Derek Thomas)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp7-5gbtfOY
  • People who ask him the difference between Uber and Lyft.
  • Misuse of photography and videography vocabulary (Here’s a few keywords to get you started:  Aperture, ISO, Green Screen, CGI, Pixels, Photoshop, Jump Cut)
  • Anybody who makes it on to American Ninja Warrior that’s not Derek Thomas.  (It just ain’t fair…)

I don’t give you this information so that you can torment Derek constantly.  But some well-intentioned ribbing might keep things interesting for all parties.  Lol.

Please keep in mind that Derek’s a sensitive creature who thrives on hugs and people laughing at his jokes.  So play nice with him so that he’ll want to come back in the future…  as I’d prefer not to wait until the year 2030 for my next vacation.

I’ve provided you with a lot of power here.  So please remember,

With great power comes great responsibility.  😉

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility | David M Masters

I’ll miss seeing you all this week!

Looking forward to a fun-filled, sun-filled, rest-filled trip… and seeing a beach for perhaps the first time in over a decade.

Love you!  Have fun!  Be nice to the Der-Bear!  (Use that nickname at your own discretion.)

CeejEO over and out!

Much love!

CJ
