Bootcamp is takin’ it to the streets!
To kick off the New Year the right way, I thought it would be a blast to get signed up for the Commitment Day 5k taking place on January 1st. (Yes, my idea of a “blast” can be warped… but let’s do this!!!)
I wrote a longer post about the power of commitment and starting out your 2016 with some intention HERE.
Afraid of the cold? …That’s why God created Under Armour.
Never completed a 5k? …No worries. Sue Self-Portwine knows a thing or two about 5k’s… and triathlons… and being awesome…
The 1st practice run will be October 24th @ 7am at Schroeder Park aka Manchester Park (Location here)
All other practice runs will be same location on every Saturday leading up to the race @ 8:30am.
Go here to sign up for the Commitment Day 5k: http://www.commitmentday.com/missouri/west-county/
Email CJ to announce your commitment (and stay updated on any upcoming info): CJ@STLFitnessBootcamp.com
We’d love to get a big group together for this event. So Manchester peeps… St. Peters peeps… tell your friends, get your family involved, and let’s commit to absolutely dominating 2016 starting on Day 1!
See below for Sue’s inspirational message…
Hey CJ!!! And all my bootcamp buddies!!!
I AM STOKED!!
Don’t anybody get the wrong idea–I do not LOVE to run, and I for sure was not built for it, but there was a time when it was getting hard to keep going to Bootcamp, and finding something to work toward pumped life into my commitment to stay fit.
The feeling of accomplishment I had when I finished my first 5k was like no other. I have done the Commitment Day 5k three times–its a re-commitment every year.
So I am so excited about getting ready for it again. And especially excited that this can be a Bootcamp event! The great thing about the Commitment Day 5k is there’s a great spirit of encouragement and support, and doesn’t have that “knock ’em dead” competitive thing going on.
Also let me say that I agree–this is not intended to replace Bootcamp–in fact, Bootcamp’s strength training has kept me injury free.
Here’s how we’ll do it:
We can be ready for a 5k with three 20-30 minute workouts a week for nine weeks.
We will do one of those every week as a big group on Saturday morning.
The other two workouts each week are yours to schedule as you can. I STRONGLY encourage you to find at least one buddy; its more fun, and helps us be accountable.
We’ll send you the workout schedule you can printout, and you can find it at this link to the program we ‘re going to use:
Of course, there’s an app!
That site has a link for an app you can download to your phone.
What you need to do, is:
First: Sign up for the Committment Day 5k. http://www.commitmentday.com/missouri/west-county/
Set yourself a goal–will you run it, walk it, or a combination? For my first one, my goal was to finish.
Start working on your running playlist.
Check out your shoes–are they suitable for running?
Find a buddy/partner (or a bunch of them!) to do the workouts with you two days a week.
Our first group workout will be October 24.
We’ll meet on Saturday @ 7am, Oct 24th and @ 8:3oam, Oct 31st and every Saturday after that until Commitment Day. Don’t worry if you have to miss a group workout–just keep on schedule with the workouts and get to the next one.
The workout location is Schroeder Park aka Manchester Park. (off of Hanna Rd near 141 in Manchester)
We are going to have fun! I look forward to seeing you on October 24th!!
